Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time law program |
Admission to Alabama is becoming more and more selective. This year
only about 24% of applicants were admitted. It seems the key to getting
accepted to Alabama is to score high enough on the LSAT. If you score a
161 or higher on the LSAT, then you are almost certainly guaranteed
admission, even if your undergraduate GPA is mediocre or even abysmal.
Conversely, if you have a really high GPA and you can't seem to make at
least a 157 on the LSAT then you probably will be denied admission.
Additionally if you have a decent GPA and also are able to score really
high on the LSAT (i.e. 165+), then you probably have a shot at getting a
scholarship. As I said before, the name of the admissions game at
Alabama is the LSAT. This focus on obtaining students with high LSAT
scores has allowed Alabama to consistently stay in the top 50 schools in
the U.S. News rankings for the past 5 or so years. Alabama does seem to
give somewhat of a boost to instate students for admissions purposes,
however, more and more of the class is now coming from out-of-state so
they do seem to be more concerned with attracting students with high
LSAT scores rather than Alabama residents. The application process is
pretty much standard procedure, however, there is an additional essay
that you must compose relating to "character building" issues.
