Social life at Tech Law is fabulous. In fact, my first year there, a
class sold tee-shirts that said, "Tech Law: We don't just pass the Bar,
we practically live there." The law students play just as hard as they
work. In addition, there was a traditional "Med-Mal weekend," where the
law students and medical students got together for a picnic and party.
This was popular with the law students, in part because the med school
picked up the tab. Another popular event is the "100 days party," where
graduating students have a huge party exactly 100 days before
graduation. Also, what other law school can boast an annual chili cook-
off? This usually coincides with Accepted Students Day, and it cemented
my decision to attend Tech over other law schools in Texas.
There is a club for just about everything at Tech law, from people who
want to support the Second Amendment to a gay and lesbian group. If you
have an interest, chances are, there's a club that will help you advance
the interest.
Lubbock, by the way, has the cheapest alcohol I have ever seen. Bars
cater to students, which means you can find a drink special every night
of the week, and "two-penny pitchers" are common. Restaurants are
equally plentiful, and Lubbock has surprisingly good fare. Not a lot of
variety, but a lot of places to get good food at a great price.
Also, Texas Tech is a Big 12 school, which means great sporting events.
Tickets for students are included in their tuition. Currently, all
students taking at least 4 hours, including law and med students, pay
$50 a semester, which gives them access to all sporting events on campus.
