High quality public interest opportunities were readily obtained. A small handful clerked, worked for the US attny's office, etc. 2L Summer: (Interview process not completed yet). Although I am probably in the bottom 1/3rd of my class, I have eight callbacks at large firms in NY (I am waiting on six other firms; I signed up for eighteen on-campus interviews). Those interested in Public Interest work for the summer also have had no difficulty in finding employment.
