The law school campus is located three blocks from Michigan Avenue,
which has the best mile (The Magnificent Mile) of shopping in the
country. Great bars, restaurants and clubs are a short bus or "L"
(train) ride away.
NEARBY BARS: The law school's unofficial bar is Timothy O'Toole's
located about three blocks away on Ontario and Fairbanks streets. There
are better offerings (in this author's humble opinion) at Jake
Melnick's on Superior (best bar food in Chicago). Other popular student
bars include Streeter's on Chicago and
NEARBY RESTAURANTS: The Grand Lux Cafe on Michican Avenue (about 4-5
blocks from the law school) offers a broad range of items and is
somewhat comparable to the Cheesecake Factory (also on Michigan Avenue
and about 4-5 blocks from the law school). Foodlife at Water Tower
(also on Michigan Avenue) is a frequent respite for hungry students.
Harry's Cafe (located on campus) has vastly improved its offerings in
the past year and has become a bona fide competitor for local
restaurants. Probably the most popular "restaurant" are the food trucks
that cater to Northwestern's law, dental, medical, and business school
students.
MISCELLANEOUS SOCIAL LIFE NOTES: There is a Committee devoted to
putting on a weekly (Thursday) "Bar Review," where students adjourn to
one of the City's watering holes and party it up.
There is dating within the law school community, but it the law school
itself is certainly not incestuous. Many studets come to school with
significant others and spouses because the student body tends to be
somwehat older than other law schools. Long-distance relationships are
difficult and some don't survive the first year of law school.
