Quality of Life Survey |
| J.D. (Law School) |
Living in Chicago and attending Northwestern Law School can be an
expensive proposition. Students who are not independently wealthy and
receive no financial aid can expect to graduate with $150,000 in debt.
That being said, Northwestern provides significant financial grants to
a sizeable number of candidates who apply for financial aid. The
financial aid award is determined once, prior to entering law schol,
and generally does not change over three years.
Northwestern provides on-campus (one block away) housing and meals for
interested students. Living at Lake Shore Center (the dorm) is a great
way to meet fellow students (as well as med school students), but can
be a rough transition for individuals who have lived independently for
a few years. Jimmy G's, the dorm cafeteria, does not enjoy a great
repuation for the quality of its food. The Lake Shore Center building
itself is older.
The campus of the law school is situated in the heart of downtown. The
Library has a view that overlooks Lake Michigan, helping to eviscerate
the occasional suicidal thoughts with its picturesque views. There are
few, if any, law schools that can boast of such a great location. Crime
in downtown Chicago is low.
