Employment Prospects Survey |
| JD Program |
Career prospects at NYU are excellent. There are two separate offices which
help place students in either private sector or public interest positions. I
can't really speak for the public interest office (since that is not the career
route that I chose), but I can say with confidence that most students find easily
jobs in the private sector. The week before the start of your second year, NYU
holds an early interview week -- a staggering number of law firms come to campus
to interview students for summer positions. NYU, unlike some other law schools,
runs a lottery for interviews instead of pre-screening based on grades. NYU does
not even allow us to put GPAs on our resumes because NYU believes that all of its
students are qualified. The interview process is really incredible -- no sending
out resumes and cover letters, the employers come to you. I had 15 interviews
during early interview week (by choice), but I know students who had as many as
30. I got a call back at almost every firm I interviewed at and by October had 8
job offers to choose from. Friends had similar experiences. Especially if you
are looking for a job in NYC, I think the NYU reputation carries a lot of weight.
And there are a lot of NYU alumni out there looking to hire NYU grads.
