Quality of Life Survey |

Fordham is centrally located next door to Lincoln Center & Juilliard on
the Upper West Side - which is fantastic and probably one of the more
salient qualities of the school. In between classes, can go to a free
Juilliard recital while getting day-of discount tickets to the Met -
it's great! Living in the dorms really helps too as far as commuting
goes and the dorms are "alright." Fordham's Lincoln Center campus also
houses the undergraduate fine arts department so that we share the
dorms with undergraduates - which at time is very annoying but at least
we have priority. The level of security is fabulous to the point of
distraction since every time you walk in and out you have to show ID
and log in; but it's been 100% safe; no crimes at all [except for the
rare laptop thefts in the library]. Fordham is trying to shed it's
commuter-school/regional school status and so tries to make the housing
more communal, fostering a sense of pride in the school, etc. with
special activities, but most of us are so stressed out trying to make
the grades to get those jobs that we ignore them. In addition, since
it is, in fact, no mattter how adamantly they deny it, a
regional/commuter school, the facilities leave a lot to be desired as
far as things like dining rooms and exercise equipment: the sole
cafeteria servicing the whole building, including the law school and
the undergraduate fine arts department, is minimally open and the "gym"
can hardly be called that - it's one medium-sized room with 3
treadmills from the early 90s which they probably got on consignment
from a "real" gym's overhaul, and a few really old Nautilus weight
machines. However, the school makes up for that lack in terms of
technology - with wireless access everywhere [of course, nothing's for
free especially at Fordham, and computer access, whether you access it
or not, is accounted for with a mandatory monthly tech fee of $75 which
is automaticaly listed on your bills] and a fantastic law school
library. Overall, it would be a great school [with the minor problems
with administration] - if it were higher ranked so that we wouldn't be
so stressed about getting a job after graduation when we have to start
paying back our $100,000 student loans.
