Social Life Survey |
| Full-time law program |
There is not much time for social life in your first two years of law
school. First year, evevryone works like dogs. Second year-first
semester, everyone is doing callbacks, working on their journal, and
flying around the country. Second year-second semester, everyone is
trying to finish their notes for journal. It isn't until thrid year
that you can really enjoy yourself, and that is only if you aren't a
journal office holder or doing moot court competitions.
In those few spare hours you do have, most people go to one of three
places: the movies, the restaurant, or the bar. Ithaca has plenty of
all three of these. There are three movie theatres--one holloywiid
dominated chain, one artsy independent chain, and one taht straddles the
line between the two extremes. There are dozens of bars in college town
and several more downtown. There are dozens of restaurants, most of the
ones actually worth eating at require you to go 1/2 mile down the hill
to downtown Ithaca or driving in your car.
For the non-traditional types, there are several alternative sources of
entertainment. Cornell Hockey is very popular, but requires camping in
line for season tickets two days in advance of purchase. If you aren't
that dedicated, you can buy single game tickets for all games except
against arch-rival Harvard. If you like blues, jazz, folk or other non-
top 40 types of music, there are many opportunities to attend concerts
with national acts in Ithaca.
