Poor. Remote location and extreme academic demands. The University,
though not the law school, suffers a reputation for long winters and
depressed students. I do not know the staitics on suicide, but the
common reputation of the school is that a problem exists. My roomates
once convinced a perfect stranger (but an undergraduate) to step off of
the railing of a bridge -- over a deep gorge -- and NOT commit suicide.
It's an intense place, best suited for library-lovers not interested in
climate, sunshine, social activities, or remaining geographically close
to friends post-graduation. If that's you, go for it (really). The
school will plug you into a big firm job where you will remain a
workaholic for the duration of your career. In return, you will earn a
very nice income and get a shot at the "Partner" title from a big firm.
Bear in mind, this is the last chance you will have to turn away from
that path, and many many big-firm lawyers are very unhappy
professionals. Know yourself. Be honest. And if you fit the Cornell
career mold, consider another top ten school in a city you might someday
habitate. Or at least want to visit on vacation.
