There are tons of organizations, journals, activities, and other goings
on, both at the law school, and on campus. It usually felt like there
were too many that sounded interesting, but not enough time. So many
public figures, artists, activists, etc. show up to speak, perform, and
otherwise interact on the Columbia campus that it really feels like the
center of the world sometimes. You shouldn't miss the 1L Welcome dinner
which takes place in the beautiful atrium of Low Library.
There are about 3 or 4 bars in the area. The students have a "Bar
Review" every Thursday where they'll meet and hang out at a different
local bar. There are lots of different restaurants as well--Italian
(Pertutti's is a favorite), Chinese, Korean, Japanese, pizza, etc.
The food in the law school cafeteria is pretty decent as well. But if
you walk over next door to the buffet at Faculty House, the price for
food is similar for more variety and better quality.
