The only downside to attending Columbia is that Morningside Heights
isn't the greatest neighborhood in New York City. That is not to say
that the area is unsafe, merely that there are other areas of the city
that are more happening (e.g., East Village). The law school building,
which was apparently from the 1950's Soviet Union style architecture, is
at least being modernized on the inside. Quality of life at Columbia is
what you make of it. If someone wants to study all of the time, and
there are certainly plenty of people who take that approach, then
quality of life may diminish somewhat. On the other hand, there are
plenty of opportunities have a good time.
