Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time law program |
Admissions is based on LSAT, GPA, letters of recommendation, and other
extras, with a great emphasis on the LSAT and GPA. I got in Early
Decision ("ED") in 1999 with a GPA of 3.4, LSAT of 172, a letter of
recommendation from a professor and one from a long-time friend.
However, the school has self-reported as having become stricter in
accepting students thru the ED program. Although there were definitely
ivy league undergrad contingents, the student body was very diverse; I
got the impression that it doesn't really matter where you went to
undergrad, as long as you performed well there and had a great LSAT
score.
I met a few students who found out at the very last minute that they
had been accepted off the waitlist. One found out only a few days
before classes began! Another student supposedly showed up at the
admissions office right before class began asking Columbia to take him
off the waitlist and it worked. Whether the latter story is true or
not, it definitely wouldn't hurt to show that you really want to go
there.
