The School sponsors various social activities at bars in the Chicago
area throughout the year for its students, which gives students an
opportunity to spend time together outside the classroom. Additionally,
there are numerous bars and restaurants close enough to the school to
allow students to hang out at them. Greek Town is within walking
distance from the school and provides even more options. There are
numerous other non-social events sponsored by the school as well from
volunteer opportunities to speakers on various issues. Most of the
clubs are the ones who coordinate these events. Speaking of clubs, if a
student has an interest there is a club, or they can start one of their
own. While I was at Kent, students created an animal rights law club
and succeeded in getting a professor to teach a class (for credit) on
animal rights law. No information on Chicago Kent would be complete
without mentioning the Conviser Bash. Several times a year, Professor
Conviser, who also runs the Barbri bar review course, throws a party at
a club in the area for all Chicago Kent students and their friends. It
usually runs from 9 pm to midnight and is on a Thursday night (after
student's first year most don't have class on Fridays). Admission is
free and so are beer, wine and well drinks. The other fun thing is that
Professor Conviser is always there and in his classes for about the week
previous he states that he will be taking notice of who is there and who
is still there when it ends stating that it is mandatory that all of his
students are there.
All in all, while the academics are certainly important, there is an
opportunity for students to become involved in any club that interests
them as well as moot court or law review or the legal clinic program,
but there is also ample time for social events and socializing, as well.
