If you have time, Boston is a great place to be a law student. Legally,
the 1st circuit and the hub of the Mass. state-court system are located
downtown. Socially, there is no city in the world more accommodating to
students. The city is small and manageable, and has a lot to offer.
Students generally live in the Kenmore/Fenway/Brookline areas - which is
smack dab inbetween BU and BC. Tons of students live in and around
Coolidge Corner, and rightfully so because it is a great place to live
with great restaurants(Zaftigs is the ultimate brunch place) and you
have access to everything you need for everyday life (great grocery
store on Comm. Ave.; Gap, etc. at Coolidge Corner). This area also
provides easy access to the "T" ($1 per ride) so downtown Boston is
barely a 20 min. ride away.
Some students also live in the area around Fenway Park (which is also
popular with the BU undergrads so it is a bit more social, and gets
crazy during baseball season)- which is great too because is is two "T"
stops from Back Bay/Newbury Street (Chic shopping, great people
watching, good places to eat), and close to the newly-opened Landmark
Center which provides things like Best Buy, REI, Boston Sports Club, Bed
Bath and Beyond, Movie Theaters, etc. Also, the reading room at the
Boston Public Library (Copley Square) offers a great place to study
(complete with free internet access) if you want to get away from the
stress of the law tower. Some students live closer to downtown, which is
further away, and the apartments tend to me smaller and more expensive.
Boston is a great place to live and has a lot of great neighborhoods for
you to live in when you are young.
There are plenty of places to go out in the neighborhoods surrounding BU
(An Tua Nua, Wonderbar, Tonic, Audobon). BU kids, BC kids, and the
occasional Harvidian straying across the river frequent these places.
The mostly prententious Boston nightlife is also really close. The T
gets annoying because it stops running around 1 and the bars are open
until 2 (this may seem early depending on what part of the country you
are coming from) - but the city's size means that cab rides are not too
expensive.
Boston has a lot of quality restaurants, although the area immediatly
surrounding the law tower lacks a wide variety of places to eat (there
is a great/cheap Thai place called Nud Pob across the street and the
George Sherman Union has a decent food court). Kenmore Square, a short
walk, has restaurants, such as Bertuccis, PizerriaUNO, and a cool
burrito place. Brookline has a lot of great places to eat (from sushi to
thai to tapas) - they just aren't close enough to school to grab a great
lunch.
