For the Yale application, I spoke with two current students and
incorporated their advice and feedback into my essays to demonstrate my
understanding of the program, beyond statistics and the glossy
brochure.
Once in school, I began to assist with the admissions process and found
that candidates who took the initiative to visit and speak to faculty
and students definitely gained an advantage over others. Also,
candidates with experience in the field are able to make a much
stronger and more convincing case than those who seem to have a more
romanticized notion of healthcare. In many cases, having 2-3 years of
experience not only improved chances of admission, but seemed to help
students get more out of the program, given that it is a practical,
professional degree.
