I'm working fulltime while taking the graduate-level program, but have already
found career doors opening to me due to the courses I've taken and the knowledge
I've gained through Westbrook. I've also made contacts with professional
organizations through Westbrook such as the American Psychological Association
and the International Association of Business Communicators (remember, I'm doing
a custom-degree program with a business-communications subfocus). I find -- and
checked this out with a large number of alumni before applying to Westbrook --
that the university's degree holds a high standing with employers. I also learned
that the university offers doctoral programs in areas such as addictions
counseling that are considered among the best in the nation!
There is no campus recruiting that I know of because Westbrook is an exclusively
distance-learning institution. But I understand that other MA's in counseling
psychology from Westbrook have found career success as clinicians or mental
health counselors at research institutions, in the corporate world and at
nonprofit organizations. Some have started their own successful private
practices. Still others have continued their education toward a Ph.D. at
Westbrook or at other institutions like Georgetown University, City University of
New York, Chicago State University and Pennsylvania State University.
