The profession of counseling, which I'm studying, is based on an eclectic
approach to theories and practices, giving the practitioner a depth and
flexibility needed to alleviate anxieties, confusion and conflicts. Westbrook
graduates are prepared to work as professional counselors in mental health and
special service agencies, college and university counseling services, hospital
and residential treatment facilities, and corporate/industrial settings.
Concerning career development, the university actually offers special classes in
"how to develop a practice" and other aspects of the field so that we are truly
prepared for the "outside world."
Because Westbrook is a distance-learning institution, there is no "campus
recruiting" to speak of, but the university does assist students with career
guidance, including a strong mentoring program, and services designed to help
students reach greater heights in their career endeavors.
