Madison is an excellent place to live. We lived off campus at that
point, but we had no problems commuting. In actuality, we cycled to
campus most of the time, but the bus system was excellent when the
weather did not permit cycling. Culturally, the campus and the city
offered a wide range of opportunities. We were always satisfied with
the campus facilities, including classrooms, the student union, the
library, the state historical society, and the athletic facilities. As
a caveat, I should mention that much has changed since then and I think
that things are better now.
