USC has continuous admissions, meaning the deadline for applying is
usually a month or so before the beginning of that semester. This helps
cut down on the last minute rush to get letters of recommendation and
writing samples, etc. However, they are fairly selective. Essays should
be well polished. I recommend taking it to an English teacher or
professor and asking them to grade it as if it were an assinment, then
use their comments to make it better. Interviews are opptional for most
programs, but they can be very helpful in establishing a relationship
with the department. Bottom line...show your enthusiasm for learning,
and take advantage of the extra time by not waiting until the last
minute.
