Quality of Life Survey |
| full-time Ph.D. |
Ph.D. students I know all live off campus, some wihtin walking distance. Others
have long commutes (up to an hour each way). Some are unattached, others
have families with small or older children. Whatever your situation, it's
possible
to make this program work by setting priorities carefully.
Profs don't mind lecture taping and commute time can make excellent study time.
Sometimes I listen to lectures in the car until I could give them.
Buildings vary. Some are modern and well equipped. Some show their age.
Computing facilities are good enough. Ph.D.'s all have decent office space,
usually shared with one other student. They also get PCs sufficient to run
software required for classes. Statistical software takes some processing power
so while the PCs aren't always new, they aren't dogs.
