SOAS had a career counselor who was horrible - biased and rude, she had nothing
to offer anyone who wasn't British.
In addition, for those seeking employment in the UK, there is a strong bias
against non-Brits working in international development. There aren't a lot of
jobs in international development/charity work anyway, and those that are there
tend to be dominated by upper-middle class wives who want to do something with
their spare time.
Do not underestimate the strength of the class system in the UK - certain jobs
are just not available to those who didn't go to the right "public schools" or
the right families.
That said, the program and University both have strong reputations within the UK
and most Americans assume that the school must be good because it is British.
