| Full Time Master's program in Anthropology of Development |
It is very easy to get into the program if coming from overseas - the
University of London has two price structures - one for EU students and
one for everyone else (which is 10x the price of the EU student rate).
When I was there, the rates were 750 pounds and 7000 pounds
respectively, for the entire program.
They are desperate for cash so will take anyone with a good degree who
can pay. You pay the entire fee up front. EU students (including those
from within the UK) get scholarships which pay some or all of their fees
and accomodations. There are no scholarships or financial assistance
available to non UK/EU students - though you might be able to get rotary
scholarships and the like.
The application process wasn't too onorous - standard application with
essay, no interview needed.
The student population, especially in the graduate programs, is very
international - I think we had a handful of British students, and the
rest came from all over the world (few Americans were in the program, in
fact).
One negative is that the quality of the other students was mixed. The
international students (including those from the EU) were generally
older and had good relevant experience (even if it just involved being
from Sri Lanka or Nigeria). The UK students generally had just finished
undergrad and were taking the Taught Master's as a way to put of finding
a job for another year. They were smart, young, idealistic, and
generally had no real work or overseas experience, and often had some
really wacky ideas of how the world works. It was sometimes good fun
destroying their naive conceptions, but most of the time it was just
annoying.
