| Full-time graduate program in international relations |
The Office of Career Services struggles a bit with the same issue the school
struggles with--how to define itself. Students come from a wide variety of
background and have a similar number of ideas about where they want to go
afterwards.
That said, they have done a good job placing students and nearly everyone has a
job within a few months of graduation. Fletcher is quite well-known and
well-respected in its traditional fields of government work and international
organisations, but over the last 5 years has placed many people in private sector
jobs as well. It is a bit of a struggle with private sector though as the program
is less well-known.
The school has weathered the recent downturn quite well as its traditional
recruiting sectors weren't as affected as for other programs such as MBAs.
One piece of advice--students should come to the program with a good idea of
what they want to do when they finish or at least a priority list of areas to
explore. It's too easy to go through the program without a focus and it's easier
to pursue a career if you know what you want coming in.
