SUNY has a good on campus life. It is mostly for undergrads though.
There is the Rathskeller on campus and then some Greek fraternities but
most people don't join them.
Most socializing happens in the Quads, the living areas and with in the
departments and colleges. Students love to hang out around the podium
and people watch. The podium is a big fountain in the center of campus
where everyone kind of hangs out in good weather to watch the crowds.
Off campus student life centers around the bus route. There is an off
campus bus route that includes most of downtown Albany. This puts
students in direct contact with locals and makes for a great downtown
environment.
I worked for NYS for most of my time in school and SUNY's proximity to
the state capital made this possible.
