| Full Time Counseling Psychology |
It's been sufficiently long that I'm sure it is different now than
then. Student housing is student housing and will never be plush.
There is a special residence hall for graduate students. Fine phys.
ed. - recreational facilities. Many apartments were available nearby.
The library was solid and especially well stocked in the areas of my
study. This is necessary for any program since you will spend much of
your time there. Computing facilities were superb and now with the pc
and internet probably not at all an issue unless that is your field of
study.
There was a typical campus town of the kind to be found in any Big 10,
Big 8, Pac 10, or location where a major university is the major part
of the community. The town is agriculture, light industry and Purdue.
It's surrounded by corn for almost a hundred miles in any direction so
crime isn't a factor particulary. As a "small town" of around 35,000
students- the university's got great resources. There is a very good
mass transit bus system for getting around the town if you don't have a
car.
The academic resources I needed to study psychology were first rate and
new buildings for the discipline have been completed since I left. I
can't imagine that there are inadequate facilities now given the
continuing strong reputation of the psychology program as maintained by
the department continuing to attract and keep great faculty. Check out
what you need for your field of study. Comparative psych and animal
behavior has different needs than clinical and counseling. Take a look
at the Psych department's web site. The university as a whole has an
excellent website.
