Classes enroll in Sept., Jan. and June and range from 40-90 students.
You'll know everyone, though cliques usually form based on what
reporting class you end up in during the first quarter. Since people
range in age and experience, there's no one Medill hangout. Some people
prefer to engage in the greater Chicago social scene, others take
advantage of on-campus theater, cinema, football games, etc. A few
couples form from every class, but many people are in long-distance
relationships and go away for the weekends. It helps to try and meet
students who started earlier to expand your social horizons. Living with
a classmate can be helpful and you can afford bigger space to hold
parties. During the first quarter, the school encourages the class to
meet for Happy Hour at one of two bars in Evanston, Coach's or Nevin's.
Occasionally the program director, Jon Ziomek, will buy you a beer.
