A great biproduct of instructors practicing in the industry is that at the end
of the semester, most will ask for resumes so they can submit them to their
companies (many of them work for prestigious firms like Goldman Sachs, Solomon
Smith-Barney, etc.) and you really do have a good shot of getting an interview
and a job. They've usually worked at their firms for a while and send your resume
to the right people with their recommendation (after all, they've just taught you
everything you now know). You don't even need to brown-nose to the instructors
during the semester; as long as you hand in assignments on time and get A's and
B's. I actually got two interviews and one offer through these submittals. The
other good career opportunity is through friendly classmates - most of them are
in your industry and would know of openings in their own firms. As long as you're
not constantly asking them to help you with your homework!
There was no career placement per se for continuing ed students, but again, if
the right (administrators) like you, they may also be another source of contacts.
What the school does offer are free career information sessions where different
types of professionals will have a one-hour seminar and afterwards you can talk
to them. Some of them these professionals are career counselors, people who work
with employment agencies, or just people who can share their different careers
experiences in different industries. They occassionally do have career fairs for
regular degreed individuals, but continuing ed students/alumni can attend them as
well.
