Again, we were graduate students, many of whom already had families and
lives of their own. Others, such as myself, easily made friends with
other Saturday program participants - it was an interesting dynamic,
going through the program with the same classmates, similar to the
environment in elementary school. (I do not say that in a negative
way.) My favorite haunt, as well as that of other classmates, was the
now-closed Bayamo on Broadway near 4th Street. That is where several of
us went to celebrate when we finished our comprehensive exams.
