New York City offers, and in particular Greenwsich Village, offers
fantastic bars, restaurants and events throughout the year. The only
issue you will find with the graduate programs is that many of the
classes are in the evenings, and many people come straight from work or
part-time work. Many people travel down to the Village from all over
the tri-state area, and some travel by car. You will not find that
much of a social scene as you perhaps did as an undergraduate. You
will find though that full time students will meet more often for
lunch, or schedule dinner plans before/after classes (not as much
impromptu activities). Of course, the atmosphere is a bit different
during exam time and project deadline time - more students on campus
during these times! Keeping in contact with former colleagues from the
program is key, as the networking is invaluable. The Wagner school
newsletters, email alerts and alumni association make this possible.
Whether students and alumni take advantage is up to them, and some do
not choose to follow-up after they graduate. If one is looking for a
program just for the social life, this is not your kind of program.
Students are serious about their academics, in particular at the cost
of any program from NYU. Remember, this is graduate school, and most
program participants have been out in the real world for some time.
