Because the majority of students in my program had graduate assistantships
within our field, we were building experience at the same time as we were
building classroom knowledge.
Students were encouraged to attend professional conferences to look for jobs
(and faculty often went as well and provided support as students interviewed en
masse at these conferences). Faculty members served as resources to help
students evaluate potential working environments, and they also acted as
references.
Graduates with a College Student Personnel degree tend to be drawn to working
within student services at colleges and universities. So, my classmates are now
working in areas including Greek Life, Career Services, Academic Advising,
Residential Life/Housing, Financial Aid, Admissions, Orientation, and more.
