The admissions process was actually quite easy. I completed the written
application including a personal statement and sent it to the school.
Within the personal statement, I was asked to inform the selection
committee if I was interested in pursuing a graduate assistantship (to
gain experience and also to help fund graduate school). Because I was
interested, I included a couple supplemental paragraphs in my statement
about which assistantships interested me and why.
Following submission of the application, I received notice from Miami
that I was invited to come to campus for an interview, campus tour, and
selection for assistantships. This portion of the process was incredibly
well organized. I met with a faculty member, sat in on a class, and ate
lunch with current students. The rest of my day was spent interviewing
for graduate assistantships with four different offices (all of which
were offices for which I demonstrated interest in my application).
Within a few weeks of my on-campus visit, I received a call from the
faculty member with whom I met as well as the Director of Residence Life
(the office in which I'd been offered an assistantship) to be informed
that I had been accepted to the program.
