I lived at the London Goodenough Trust - a residence for overseas students not affiliated with LSE in particular. Anyone can apply to live there though. My housing was great (larger than my studio apartment in NYC the year after). Though crime and safety are an issue in any big city, the LSE area is very safe. Like in any city, however, a student needs to take basic precautions (i.e. don't stumble home late at night alone!) Dining and other activities in London are so great. Though people say the food is awful, I found it to be fine and it is getting better every year as some American resturants make their way there. Things closed early though. That was one of my biggest complaints. Pubs close at 11 and very few food places are open past that time. If you go out at night to a party, there's no where to stop and get food. You need to stock your fridge! Another great thing about London is that it is very easy to travel to other countries from there, even for a weekend, as many of us did.
