Employment Prospects Survey |
| MSc. Finance & Economics |
The program is recognized as being theoretical in the marketplace, and is
identified more with people looking to go into the quant side of financial
structuring.
LSE does offer the students access to all the major employers who do
aggressively recruit over there, however the careers service is not as proactive,
in trying to place students. I might be making an unfair comparisons with US
businesss schools who try and place their MBAs aggressively, and at the LSE
you've got a 1000 ppl applying for the same positions. However, a bit more
aggressive approach, trying to tie up interviews only for ppl in the course woule
be beneficial.
LSE has a lot of prestige with the employers, just below Oxford and Cambridge,
and I was surprised at how many interviews people got, in comparison to people
from other courses who had more relevant courses.
The people from this course had been placed well till about 2001, with most
people getting a few job offers midway by the course. However things have tapered
off badly since then with only a few people getting jobs from the last two
batches, which is reflective more of general conditions in the City, than a
deterioration in the quality of education.
