Admission & Application Survey |
| Master of Architecture |
I would like to submit an account of contemplating changing careers from
engineering to architecture in the mid 1980's. I was in a situation
where I had suspected being laid off from a large farm machinery
manufacturer and had no other manufacturers to turn to for employment.
I have always had a strong interest in design and decided to pursue an
education in architecture. The most logical place seemed to be to
return to Iowa State University in Ames Iowa where I had previously
attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering.
The first step was to contact the Admissions Office to determine the
process and to obtain the proper forms. Upon completing and submitting
the forms, the next step was to study for the Graduate Record
Examination (GRE). I studied during evenings, weekends and free time
while employed on contract to supervise a parts and service support
program for the corn harvest in southern Indiana during the fall of 1986.
Upon passing the GRE, I started taking classes as a part-time graduate
student while contracting to develop a parts and service program for
custom combine operators.
