The dorms were decent. I lived on-campus for 1.5 years in a 'wellness
living' dorm, meaning no smoking or drinking, and I did my partying
elsewhere. The rooms were kept clean, as well as the bathrooms, and the
students where I stayed were very friendly, albeit hippy'ish. The area,
as a whole, is very politically-correct, anti-corporate, and very
feminist. I'd often pass women's rights posters and chalk drawings on
the way to class, and generally felt like an outsider being a white male
from a big city. There was a lot of pot smoking going on (very accepted
in Humboldt), which I didn't mind too much... but some might. The
extreme feminism seemed to even bleed in to my normal classes, which was
a bit of an irritant to me. Crime-wise, the city as a whole is very
safe. When I parked on-campus, my car was broken into twice, but once I
moved I never ran in to any trouble. The only pestering factor are all
the homeless/hippy kids who constantly beg for change wherever you go.
