| Full time Master's Program in Education |
Getting into the Ed School at Harvard is much easier than the other grad
schools there, and you still have access to the entire university. You
still better have good grades and test scores, obviously, but you don't
need to have won the Nobel in 10th grade to have a decent shot.
Write a very cool personal statement-- it should be tight, creative,
perfectly error-free, and contain a personal narrative that convinces
them you are not a selfish corporate drone. The Ed School is "touchy
feely" but don't overdo it on the sentiment. Strike a balance. I
talked about my 5 post-college years living as a ski bum and driving
around in a beat up truck, and they apparently liked it. Be different,
but not fake.
Again, if you've got over a 3.0 at a decent undergrad school, have about
the 90th percentile on the tests and can write convincingly and
creatively about your passion for education, you have a great shot at
getting in (check the stats-- the admit rate is like 40%). Most people
are too intimidated to try, so go for it.
No interview is required, and don't bother. You'll look like a suck-
up.
