No students live on campus and even if it where an option, I would
advise against it. Too many noisy undergrads. Goucher is in a suburb
of Baltimore, so don??t expect big city attraction right nearby.
Downtown Baltimore is about a 20 minute drive. Most students live
within walking distance of the campus and ample housing is available
nearby. One bedrooms in the area run $650 (basic) - $900 (nice). Two
bedrooms probably run $750 - $1000. Many students choose to live with
roommates and the program will help you set this up. If you??d like to
live in the city, Baltimore is inexpensive and you can probably find a
cheaper place in some of the city neighborhoods (you might look at Mt.
Washington or Charles Village). This can work out pretty well, since
you will have a reverse commute, but the convenience of living near
school will be appreciated when your classes get more demanding in the
spring.
Goucher is a small liberal arts college (1200 ?? 1500 students);
consequently, campus facilities are mostly adequate, but not stellar.
The gym is very basic and if you are a real gym buff you will probably
want to consider joining an outside gym. Computers are available in
the library and a few labs on campus. Many students study in the
library which is a bit dated. A new library is being planned, but
unsure of completion date.
There are several good local eateries around (Pizza, Kabobs, delis) and
the usual chains (Subway, McDonalds, etc.). If you want more upscale
dining just drive into Baltimore. The on-campus dining is decent and
best for a quick bite. There is a grocery store within walking
distance and this allows some students to attend without owning an
automobile. However, to get to a destination some distance away you
will need to use public transportation or a friend. The airport is
about a 30 minute drive. The train station is about 20 minutes.
Suburban Towson is a relatively safe neighborhood as is the campus.
