Quality of Life Survey |
| MA & Ph.D. |
Housing (http://www.fiu.edu/%7Ehousing/) is listed for both the
University Park and Biscayne Bay campuses, as there are several
apartment and dorm complexes [i.e., Everglades Hall, Panther Hall,
University Park Towers, University Park Apartments, and Bay Vista
(Biscayne Bay Campus)]. Other campus facilities [e.g., the Baseball
Stadium, the Campus Support Complex, the FIU Community Stadium, the
Graham University Center, the Golden Panther Arena, the Health Care &
Wellness Center, the National Hurricane Center, the Art Museum, the
Student Fitness Center, the Visitor Information Center, and the
Wertheim Performing Arts Center (http://www.fiu.edu/images/upmap-
2003.pdf)] are well-operated. {Info. on the Biscayne Bay Campus, the
FIU Broward - Pines Center, the Engineering Center, the College of
Continuing and Professional Studies, the Metropolitan Center, and the
Wolfsonian-FIU can be found at
http://www.fiu.edu/docs/campus_maps.htm.} Concerning matters of human
respect, I think it safe to say that there is a definite issue of dorm
safety--more preventive measures could be taken throughout the
neighborhood in terms of crime & safety to ensure that well-being of
students is protected. Currently, crime prevention is elucidated at
http://www.fiu.edu/~univpol/cprevention.htm, and this is of major
necessity due to a recent series of thefts at one of the dorms. Dining
has numerous options. Overall quality of life could be improved,
however, by more efficient recycling and care taken of the surrounding
environment. There is also a sizeable number of Muscovy ducks ("Carina
moschata") native to the South Florida/Everglades ecosystem, and one
should not be surprised to encounter lizards and other reptiles on a
regular basis!
