The admissions process for Dartmouth College is highly selective, however
it is not a daunting process. The application system is fairly standard
for graduate schools. The necessary material for submission includes
transcripts from undergrad, a writing sample in two languages if one if
applying for comparative literature, GRE scores, and a personal essay. I
also visited Dartmouth in order to have two interviews with professors
who were in the Comparative Literature department, and with the Dean of
Graduate Studies. I found that the interviews were highly beneficial for
both the professors in their selection process, and for my selection as
well.
Dartmouth notified me in a timely manner about my acceptance, and this
was verified through a telephone call. The administration talked me
through the various details of housing, registration, and financial
issues prior to my arrival via telephone.
Once I was accepted, I found that the other applicants were also highly
skilled, intelligent, and that we all brought unique qualities to the
intellectual life at Dartmouth.
