CIPA has a good track record with placing some graduates in the prestigious
Presidential Management Intern (PMI) program. All students are required to have
a policy-based internship between the two academic years. The program has a
career development office, which traditionally has been small. While the career
development aspect of the program was sorely lacking in terms of addressing the
needs of the majority of graduates, it has been improving over the past few
years. The master of public administration degree is unfamiliar to most private
sector employers, and is slowly gaining entre into the private sector, especially
via consulting. Federal, state and local government are more familiar with the
degree, as is the nonprofit sector.
