I lived in nearby University Heights, OH and took the bus to and from the
university. CWRU is in University Circle (UC) in Cleveland, and at the
time it was surrounded by high crime ghettos. However, with the Cleveland
Institute of Art, Severance Hall (Cleveland Symphony), and other
important cultural institutions in UC, the police presence was solid and
the campus had lots of security, "blue" phones for emergencies, etc.
Recently, huge tracts of the ghettos have been removed and replaced with
institutes, professional buildings, and mid to upper class housing.
The dorms seemed very nice, including complete electronic connectivity,
there are lots of frat and sorority houses, and there's plenty of nearby
rental properties.
