Providence has some of the best restaurants in New England, ranging
from Northern Italian, to fresh sea food, and various Southeast Asia
foods. Thayer Street, the commercial shopping/dining area on the hill
has a wide variety of eateries, and shops. Not to far down the hill in
the heart of Providence is a wonderful large modern shopping mall with
absolutely anything and everything a graduate student might need or
want, from clothing suitable for the Southern New England winter to
special and unique giftrs for holidays, birthdays, or other important
events. In addition to housing opportuntities, graduate students are
provided with an on campus bar, and a wide variety of on campus dining
arrangements and facilities from pay as you go lunch or tea rooms, to a
variety of university meal plans avaiable in cafeterias and specialty
fast food eateries spread across campus. At the foot of College
Hill,in the river park area of downtown Providence the city frequently
sponsors festivals, and events that provide wonderful social
opportunties for all Brown students. At other times, the river park
serves as a gateway to the greater retail/business/banking/dinning of
the inner city area.
