While you are only about 45 minutes from downtown Indianapolis, Muncie
still seems to be a typical college town. You have an area adjacent to
campus called the "Village". This is where most of the night life takes
place. There are other area bars, but most people go down to the Village.
It's within walking distance from most campus housing, and parking -
while difficult to find sometimes, isn't too bad. You can find just
about anything you want. School supplies, food, alcohol, gasoline,
laundry facilities, restaurants. It's basically one or two streets
compacted into a miniature village (hence the name.)
There are a variety of chain restaurants, as well as some local ones (you
must try Puerto Vallarta).
I can't speak much about the Greek system as a I was a graduate student.
However, they system is alive and well at Ball State. They throw their
parties like any other college fraternity/sororiety. The houses they
live in sometimes resemble those you've seen in the movies.
The dating scene is decent. There are plenty of women for the guys.
I'm not sure about how many guys there actually are, but being a guy I
only noticed the women. Going to the Village from Thursday through
Saturday will improve your social life. :)
Hotspots include the Locker Room, BW3, Dill Street, and my favorite:
Scotty's Brewhouse.
It's alot of fun if you give it a chance.
