Muncie is a really nice town. Indiana is *not* all corn and flat lands.
While driving in you may see those farms, fear not. Muncie has
everything you need as a college student. Movies, malls, music, anything
goes. Graduate students generally find their own apartment, or live in
university owned apartments (Scheidler or Anthony Apartments). Both are
adequate overall and the cost is very much cheaper than renting elsewhere.
Water and electric are included into one bill for around 500-550/month.
You may pay extra for phone or cable television. Maintenance is free,
and packages are easily delivered. Each complex has different housing
options. I prefer Sheidler myself, but it's a little further from campus.
Dining is pretty simple. During the regular school year you can go to
any number of places on campus that feed undergraduates. If not you can
simply go to any of the places around campus. There are quite a few.
There are some good places to eat within walking distance in the Village
as well.
Crime is very low in Muncie. It's low on campus as well. I was there
many times late at night and never once was concerned. You have access
to on campus medical facilities,
The only problem is parking. As with most campuses, parking is an issue.
They have been working to increase the number of spaces available, but I
believe it's still a problem. You will be ticketed for parking outside
of your allocated areas. They ticket like crazy. :)
They have busing around campus. It's more like a trolley than a bus.
They arrive at noted stops every 20 minutes, and go in both directions
around the main driveway through campus. This is your best bet. Park in
the cheaper commuter lot, then hop a bus and get off near your building.
It's SO much better than freezing while walking to class.
The campus is generally well kept and clean. It was very pleasent and
easy to navigate. It's a great place overall.
