As with many things, the extent to which you apply yourself in school will
represent what opportunies you have when you graduate. CICS has an excellent
placement rate overall having companies such as Accenture, AT&T, Eli Lilly, and
Verizon Avenue as their primary employers. There are several companies that
recruit CICS graduates. But do not be misguided - as the market grows sour,
jobs are harder to come by.
Graduates have previously left the program and walked into 50-60k/year
positions. These have included everything from network engineering to sales.
Ball State University has several career fairs each year. CICS students are
encouraged to visit and get to know the recruiters. The program has a certain
prestige with many companies (see above), and had internal faculty working to
help get students placed in positions. The strength of CICS lies in its group
of alumni. Many students are tapped for positions by networking with alumni who
have already graduated and are out in the workforce.
You should start looking for work from day one. The best person to rely on is
yourself. But network with everyone. Get names, numbers, and other contact
information. You will find opportunities where you least expect them to be.
