At Yale there is a little saying: You are either married or constantly
single, meaning that you either never date and are frustrated by the
social ineptitude of other your fellow students, or you've found
that "one love" your freshman year and have been literally attached
ever since. People mostly travel in large clans of friends here, and a-
cappela is huge (oh, to be a Whiff!). There isn't much stress on
fraternaties here; they are mostly notorious for throwing the most
raucous, beer-laden parties. Cheap restaurants right on campus include
the pizza joint "Yorkside," "The Educated Burgher" on Broadway where a
student can get some really tasty, if unhealthy, meals, and "Au Bon
Pain," which I refuse to defend because it's too expensive but that
students love because "Flex Dollars" are accepted here (students swap
meals to dine elsewhere). And no account of Yale would be complete
without the mention of the big club/dance/band venue "Toad's," whose
beer-stench and sticky floor you either grow to love or immediately
despise.
