Housing is a gamble. A student could live in a newly renovated,
beautiful residential college like Berkeley, or in a decrepit, roach-
infested (though still somehow beautiful in an antique way) dorm like
Trumbull College. The campus itself is unparalleled in my opinion, but
I am a fan of Gothic architecture, so that introduces a slight bias!
Unfortunately, New Haven has an old reputation for being crime-ridden
and unsafe, but I never felt exposed or vulnerable on campus, although
Yale runs right through New Haven. The "locals" are really friendly
people, and there are Yale police swarming the campus 24/7. New Haven
itself is not the most spectacular of cities, admittedly, but it has
wonderful restuarants, especially for those who enjoy international
cuisine. The main point is that Yale offers so many organizations for
its students that members of the Yale community never look long for
something interesting to do. The BEST part about Yale, however, is the
residential dining hall, where students convene daily to debate, laugh
and behave ridiculously, let loose, and eat good food.
