Yale's residential college system is the best. It really promotes a
sense of community within the bigger university. My best friends came
from my residential college, and it's always fun to compete against
other colleges. Even now when I meet other Yale alums, the first
question is always, "What college were you in?" Each college is very
different. Some have bigger rooms than others, while some are housed
in prettier buildings architectually. The university has also made
great efforts to improve the food in the dining hall, which isn't
always the best. It's nice to have the pasta station or the frozen
yogurt machines now. The New Haven neighborhood is actually safer than
I thought when I first moved in. I never had to be more careful than I
would be normally. There are definitely areas that you don't want to
go into, but there are plenty of other areas to explore that are
perfectly safe. Of course common sense is always the rule no matter
where you are. The main gym is top-notch, and there are so many
activities to do at Yale, from dance to a-cappella and you always have
an opportunity to start a new student group if you'd like.
