Admission & Application Survey
Full-time undergraduate program Typically, Yale's acceptance rate is 13%, meaning 13 students out of every 100 applicants are admitted. Facing such immense competition, students need to distinguish themselves in more than one area. Yale is not just looking for a well-decorated star athlete or a talented musician. The admissions committee selects, for example, the all-state athlete who, on the side, edits his school newspaper, heads the community-service organization, and graduates with distinguished marks. The admissions process thus begins as a freshman, when the nascent high-schooler must set goals to become a leader of his school activities and to excel beyond any established standard on the athletic field, stage, physics class, etc. Whatever one chooses to pursue, excellent must be the goal. This distinction translates to a more eye- catching admissions essay-topic, and it also makes interviewing much easier. Interviews should not be intimidating. "Know who you are" is my greatest advice, and what makes you special, and exactly why you want to go to that specific school (residential colleges, contact with top professors, seminars, etc). You must be confident, but this should not pose a challenge, for if you applied to Yale, you must have had something to back up that decision in the first place.
