Well, there are 2, wait, 3 bars in town if I remember right. The Purple
Pub is a classic hangout for most folks. It tends to be more of the
athlete and partier scene. There is one that's a bit more upscale for
the arty crowd also. Much of the partying for underclassmen especially,
happens in the dorms and at school organization-sponsored parties.
There are places to go, but after four years you've attended the same
party roughly 100 times.
On the other hand, you are with some amazing fellow students who find a
variety of other ways to entertain themselves. The intellectual
discourse and activities outside the classroom are great.
Dating scene is really made up of 3 options - meet, fall in love, stay
together for four years; participate in serial hooking-up; or remain
bitterly single complaining about the lack of dating. It's pretty
typical of most colleges in that sense. People are young, that's the
way it is.
Every student organization under the sun is at Williams - except the
Greek system. And if a group you like is not here, you're encouraged to
start it. Students run the campus after 4pm. You can definitely hone
your event-planning and organizational skills at Williams. Impov comedy
groups, student theater gropus, a capella groups, student symphonies,
jazz ensembles, etc. provide entertainment, and usually for $1-$5 per
ticket!
Sports, both club and varsity, abound at WC. A personal favorite was
the Outing Club with hikes, campouts, bike trips, and much more. They
also run pre-orientation programs for first-years that are pretty
popular.
There are several good restaurants - sub shops, pizza joints, a Thai
restaurant, Hobson's Choice and Wild Amber offer some great cuisine as
well. A short drive will also get you to many more nice places, and the
occasionally necessary fast food and Dunkin Donuts.
